My Story

I have been working in mental health for over 10 years following a significant career shift away from Civil Engineering. I came to this new career path following a challenging period in my life where I struggled with my mental health. During this time I benefited immensely from receiving counselling. I began to see the invaluable impact that a genuine, caring, non-judgemental and consistent support person in my life could have.

At different points along my journey of healing, I have needed different types of support. Today this guides my ultimate trust in being curious about what my clients are hoping for and how I can best meet them where they are at on their unique journeys. It is a personal philosophy of mine that I never ask clients to do work that I have not tried myself and that there is no cookie-cutter type of therapy.

We build the way we work together through being together in relationship.

My Aporoach

My Approach

My goal in any therapeutic relationship is to create a genuine experience between me and my clients. In counselling, my job is to witness and honour your process, no matter what stage you are at, and create a space where you feel as safe as possible to explore all parts of who you are. I know that this can be surprisingly difficult to do.

Our culture, our families, our workplaces often tell us in many direct and indirect ways how we should and should not be. Over our lifetimes we learn to make ourselves small, to shape-shift to fit the mould. For many, this can be a process that keeps us emotionally, spiritually and physically safe when we are young, but as we grow, these patterns may no longer serve us.

I work with individuals who may on the outside seem as though they are doing "ok" but on the inside, they feel stuck or like something is missing. If you are reading this and feel ready to explore the parts of you you may have had to hide, change or neglect, you're in the right place!

My philosophy is one of deep trust in the inherent goodness of every person I work with. For me, there are no bad people (or parts!), only maladaptive patterns/response that can be hurtful to self and other.

I aim to work towards being as trauma-informed and anti-oppressive as possible in my work, knowing that this is a job of lifelong learning and un-learning. I strongly believe that ethical practice as a therapist involved an ongoing commitment to to understanding the context of my social positioning. When I'm not in session, I'm regularly unpacking my own power, privilege and the dominant narratives I have been and continue to be exposed to in an effort unlearn those that are rooted in oppressive systems.
